Final Evaluation

Final Evalation - Advanced Portfolio

My advanced portfolio task consisted of myself researching/planning, directing, filming and creating three pieces of media content relating to a specific target audience and genre. These pieces include an original music video, a digipak and a promotional poster. In the 4 links below, they will each direct you to my responses for each question for my evaluation, where I reflect on the successes, failures and outcome of the project.

Plumtree

Elliot - well done for getting everything posted!

Positives:

  • Your digipak has a really good sense of continuity across all the panels and certainly fits in with your artist and the genre of the music. The colours and font are very effective and your post-production additions give it a really professional quality.
  • Your poster is clearly presented and showcases your artist and the colours used in his name are a good link to the digipak.
  • Your video has come on really well and as with the digipak, is entirely in keeping with your chosen artist and genre. Your post-production work has paid dividends with some very good shot transitions, overlays and lighting techniques, all of which are in keeping with the genre of the music.
Improvements:
  • Your digipak contains the same image in two panels and you might want to change this and maybe add some text to the right-hand panel - maybe some lyrics from one of the songs, thanks to people involved in the album, record label logo...
  • Your poster could link so much better to the album it is advertising. You have used a different font and colour for the album title and the artist's name is now in colour, where on the album it is white. It is also quite a plain image compared to all the post-production additions on the digipak and you could look at how you miht change this to allow them to link more obviously.
  • Some of the lip-syncing in the video is off but I think this might be more to do with your 'artist' not quite getting the words right, rather than a lack of attention to detail on your behalf. Would it be possible for a couple of the more obvious ones to use a different image or repeat a clip to try and minimise this?

Final Piece - Poster

Final Poster Design

Using the link below will direct you to my draft and final edition of my poster.

Music Video Poster Development

Music Video Poster Development

To compliment my music video and digipak, I have created a poster to help support the promotional aspect of 'artist' featured across my various media pieces in this task. The following link will take you to my presentation that shows progression screenshots of the poster, and the creative decisions I made to adjust the appearance to the appropriate aesthetic I required.

Digipak Final Piece

Using the link displayed below, it will take you to my Padlet page that shows the final digipak design. The digipak itself is a card/structure that encases the CD of the music album, by which each panel can be used to incorporate a design, image or theme.

Using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator I was able to generate and develop an image and style to utilize across my panels, from which I have used photos of my artist in the key panels for the start image motif effect.

Final Piece - Music Video

Dark Queen : Lil Uzi Vert

Using the link below will direct you to my final draft/edit of my music video, to the song 'dark queen' by Lil Uzi Vert. The whole process of planning, creating, and editing this video was directed by myself.

The music video itself was filmed in a variety of urban locations, but mostly the focal setting being within a car park to emphasize the grungy theme linked to the song lyrics/beat. Likewise, the editing and visual effects I have incorporated into the music video were also placed with intention to maintain the core conventions and themes throughout, as well to bring a sense of entertainment value to the video with the constants cuts, effects and fluid transitions.

Likewise, my artist featured was covering the title of (Lil Uzi Vert), a fairly mainstream musician in the rap / underground hip-hop market. Using a close contact, I was able to have full confidence with their acting skills in front of a camera, therefore this significantly helped with improving the quality and realistically of the music video.

Digipak Development Drafts

Digipak Development Drafts

To compliment my music video, I was tasked with creating a 'digipak', a card/plastic casing for a CD of a music track or album, similar to a CD case. Using the link below, it will direct you to a collage of the all the screenshots, showing a timeline of the developmental process of the designs and appearance of this digipak.
