In which ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product?

My media product uses form and conventions of a real life media product in a variety of ways. These all add up to give my media product a realistic feel which you can compare to existing products in the real world.

- I have given my News paper a realistic name & a Logo which I use of both pages of my media product. My media product is called 'The Crowthorne Times' and the logo which I made is a clock which is behind the title.

- I have used columns for my newspaper layout and have made sure that the pictures line up in the column to give it a tidy look like existing media products. I have also made it simple and easy to read by having a clear layout in the newspaper.

- My media product covers the same things that a real media product would. On my media product I have included advertisements, price and the date on the front cover.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

-The combination of my main product and ancillary tasks has proved to be a success. My main product overall looks like a real newspaper, the layout and ideas which I used really have proved to make a media product which looks similar to a real one.

-According to my audience feedback and personal opinion I think that both of my ancillary tasks are realistic looking products. I feel that the main product and ancillary tasks work together as an effective combination.

What have you learned from audience feed back?

-What I have learnt from audience feedback is that it made a huge difference to my work and made me aware of what people were thinking and I could take their opinions and use them to improve my work.

-I asked a student in my 6th form called Mikey Davies about what he thought of my main product. He said -

"The Newspaper is great, looks identicle to a real one. Good use of Photos, Headlines and realistic stories. Could have maby cropped or taken a better picture for the main story on the front page but except for that you have done a really good job on your main product."

-On blogger I would upload my drafts every time I'd do some work on my main product or ancillary tasks so that my teacher can see the progress. The benefit that I got from doing this is that the teacher would comment on the post about how the draft is looking each time and she would say what I can do to improve the work.

-Overall audience feedback is vital in terms of you being able to improve your product. Having a second opinion on things really helps. This definitely helps.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

-For the majority of my main product and ancillary tasks I used Serif pageplus x2. This is a software which is similar to Microsoft word. It is easy to use and I used it to create My main product and Bill board ancillary task.I feel that Serif pageplus x2 was a good software for the role of helping me create my main product and ancillary.

-For my second ancillary task I used Serif Webplus. This is simlar to Serif accept it is made for designing web pages so you can layer it into hyper linked pages and also after you are done you can make the document into an actual website. This software was quite hard to use at first because it was a little more complicated then the classic serif but after a while I soon got used to it.

The layout is looking much better Pat. If the right hand side is a second story, you need to make that obvious by using a headline. They offen use a colour box behind the second story to seperate it from the main story. Get a new picture in asap.

This is starting to take shape Pat. It's nice to see some drafts going up. However, it looks like a poster as it is very empty. Go back to your RMAs to help you understand the layout. You need to consider the framing of the image as the tree is in the way and put a caption up. Think about the purpose of a front cover: it is to advertise the rest of the newspaper - what other stories have you got to offer?

Story 3
Last night at 11pm there was a car crash which could have proved fatal on the boarder of sandhurst. The car was travelling down crowthorne road when the cars tired exsploaded due to a rip in the tire which the driver had not replaced. This caused the driver to loose control of the car. The car went up the curb then crashed into a lampost which then caused the car to then roll over and take out a brick wall of someones garden.

The car was full with passengers and luckily none of them suffered from any injuries except from a few scratches. All of the passengers walked out of the car in the end. They were quite shacken up from it because it was quite a fast crash and also the fact that the car rolled over 3 times and then took out a 6ft brick wall made it quite violent and scary to exsperience for them.

The brickwall of longdown lodge is being rebuilt by the council and also all of the mess from the car was all tidyed up by them aswell. The advice that we can give you is that you should always stick to the speed limits and if there is a part of your car that needs replacing you should replace it as fast as you can to keep you safe on the roads.

This has potential Pat and you are starting to use the right tone. I think you have your ideas about Broadmoor slightly confused. Surely it is the council who are wanting to get rid of it to create a hotel and flats and not the NHS trust who 'own' Broadmoor. Have another go.

Story 2
Broadmoar hospital in crowthorne may have new epic plans. It has been said that the Broadmoar hospital may be spending up to 50 million pound to create a huge new place which will incluse a luxary hotel and flats across the land.

It has been said that the size of this new plan will be big enough so that it will join bracknell, sandhurst and crowthorne into one town and they won't be devided into three seperate places. It hasen't been said when or if these plans are definately taking place.

If these plans were to change it would complete change crowthorne. It would attract a huge amont of new people to crowthorne town and make it alot more populated.

Story 1
Last night during the evening between 8pm and 2am there were two people which were attacked outside greenwood shops in crowthorne and had their valuebles stolen.

One of the victims of the muggings suffered from head injury. The first female victim had her handbag stolen which had her purse and other exspensive valuables inside. The second female victim of the attacks during 8pm and 2am last night had her credit card and mobile phone taken. She was thrown to the ground violently by the attacker.

The best advice we can give to you is to avoid walking around in the dark alone and with valuebles. Also be more careful around the crowthorne area as the attacker of these mugging has not been caught and is still out there. He is a dangerous person and police are doing as much as they can do to find and arrest him.

The attacker is described as tall about 6ft, dark slicked back hair, english and quite tanned. Keep a look out for this description and please email or phone us if you have any news or infomation about this attacker or incident.

For my title of my newspaper I am going to use a bold, big font. The font of style will be Calibri (body). The title of my newspaper will be at the top and will be spread across the top of the newspaper on the front page. I will have the main headline written in a large bold font on the left hand side of the front page. Next to the headline on the right side of the page I will have a large picture which will cover the same amount of space as the headline. I will do this because I want this front page story to stand out and grab peoples attention.

I will have a little collum down the right hand side of the front page. This will inform people of what stories and sections there are on the inside of the newspaper. It will say which pages they are on. Also just under there on the right hand side it will show a little basic weather forecast and will show the page number for the more detailed one in the newspaper.

I will have two other stories underneath the main headline on the frontpage. Both of this stories will be the same size in the amount of eye catching attention. Both of the headlines will be bold and larger than the usual text but not as large as the main story headline. Underneath the newspaper title i will have the date of the newspaper, price and website name. Also it will list the places in which the newspaper cover, this is let the people who are going to be buying the newspaper know what to exspect. It will save them having to buy it and then look through by themselves.

This is the Bill board for the Reading evening post local news paper. The headline on the bill board is very short and to the point. This is effective because it shocks the person that is reading it and makes them want to find out more information about the short, shocking headline.

The headline on the bill board is written in a huge font. This is used for effect because it catches the attention of people so that they read it and then become interested. Also the name of the newspaper is also mention on the bill board at the top. The reason for this is so that people can see the newspaper that the headline is from. This will enable the person to go into the shop that the bill board is outside of and purchase the local newspaper so it can be read in full detail.

Bill boards are a great way of introducing the local newspaper and getting it recognised by new people which do not already read the local newspaper.

This is the official Bracknell news website. The website is colour coordinated with the red, white and black theme. They use this theme so that people can recognise Bracknell news through their colours as well as the name 'Bracknell news'. The website has a well presented and easy to use layout. It includes hyper linked sections which cover all of the different categories and other useful information. This website also allows local people and readers of Bracknell news to get involved and in touch with them easily.

On the homepage of the Bracknell news website they have a picture of the front page headline of the latest newspaper that is out. This is a good way for the local reader to see the latests front page headline if they haven't already, so they are not missing out. Also on the Bracknell news website they include some of the important headline listed down the websites homepage. They are all written in a red font which suits the colour code for Bracknell news. Also the headlines are all hyper linked so they can be looked further into with just a click.

The Bracknell news website has the different local areas which it covers so that people on the website can look at the news or information which is from a certain area. This saves them having to look through the whole news feed of the website. This is a great idea from Bracknell news and it makes the website an overall easier experience.

How Research Informs Planning and Product placement

My newspaper will be a local newspaper based around the crowthorne, sandhurst and bracknell area. My newspaper will be aimed at ages 16 and over. My local newspaper will be mainly focused on the front page news headlines and also the activities. The reason why i will focus on these is because this is what proved to be the most popular catagories in the newspaper questionnaire that i did. The reason that I am making the local newspaper to be aimed at 16 + years is because i think that any younger would not be very interested in the news or contents of the newspaper.

I will be selling my local newspaper at newsagents, local shops and on sale at public events in the area. The sort of people that will be buying the newspaper will be local people from the areas that I am basing the newspaper. Also it could be for people that are not around the local area but are intrested in it or are maby looking to move into the area. Some people may just be atrracted to the activites that are going on in the local area. I will be having my newspaper on sale in shops so they will be next to other local newspapers. The way which i am going to sell my newspaper sucsessfully is by people noticing my newspaper over the other local ones. I will make my front page of the newspaper stand out, but i will have to make sure that it is not over the top because that could put people off my newspaper.

Aswell as the Local newspaper I will also be making a website and bill board which will contain news and other infomation from the local newspaper. For the website I will be advertising it through the local newspaper itself, and also through the bill board. The website will contain all of the latest news from the local newspaper and will allow people to see it whenever they like. The website will allow people to be able to come in contact with us and share there stories and options on the news. If i want this website to be a success I will have to make sure that the website is Neat, nice looking and works well. If the website is rubbish noone will want to use it. I will have all of the sections like News, activities, jobs, weather and interviews ect.. and have them hyperlinked so that people can look at all of the latest infomation on them. Also the website should have the same style and colour code as the actually local newspaper itself. This way people will be able to opperate it better and also help the style of the newspaper to exspand and this will get it recognised better and potentially become more well known.

The bill board for the local newspaper will be placed outside local newagents. The billboard is basially an A3 peice of paper which is double sided on a stand which is on show outside the front of the newsagent. The bill board's point is to show a shocking or interesting headline in a large bold font which will attract people towards it. After people have read the headline they will be so interested that they may go into the shop and purchase the newspaper that is related to the headline on the bill board. At the top of the newspaper there is the title of the local newspaper so that people can see what the bill board headline is actually for. The bill board is a very big part of advertising for the local newspaper. I will need to make the bill board standout otherwise my newspaper will not have good advertising which is vital.

The local Reading post use a big bold font for the newspaper title. This is used to attract the attention of people which are looking for a local magizine to read. The local newspaper title is written in a bright blue colour. The choice of the reading post having blue as their colour is suited because Reading football club have the same tone of blue as their football kit colour.

The main headline for the local newspaper on the front page is based in the centre of the page. I believe that this makes it stand out from the front page quite alot. Reading post have also used a Large font and also a brief shocking headline to attract the attention of people and make them interested in the newspaper. Also Reading Post have included a large photo for the main headline on the front page. This photo really stands out because it is large, in colour and also right in the middle of the front page.

Reading post local newspaper have other main headline stories on the front page. Down the left side of the front page there are headlines which are written in slightly larger and bolder font. Also these headlines are in collum form down the side of the front page. Also these collum healines on the left of the page include a picture. This helps them to stand out more. The Reading Post also has a Lion in the middle of it's newspaper title. This is a good way of the newspaper becoming more well known and recognised. Also there are sections down the right side of the front page which are saying which pages inside have news in. The rest of the newspaper front page is used for advertising.

The second page on the inside of the newspaper includes two seperate stories. Both of them use up the same mount of space. Also they both have one large picture each. The story at the bottom has a slightly larger font than the top one and has another title including inside collum info that is important. This makes the reader want to read the whole collum. Down the left hand side pf the second page there is a 3 day weather forecast. This has little pictures next to it to help exsplain and attract the weather forecast.

The Star Courier local newspaper uses a large bold front for its logo. But unlike alot of the local newspapers the name of the newspaper is also colour coded aswell. The star courier uses a colour code of black, white and red. The headlines on the front page is a big, bold, black font. This is used for effect because it catches the attention of the readers of the magizine.

The magizine also uses a medium size font which is not bold and this is used to take interesting vital infomation and displays it underneath the main headline for the readers on the newspaper to see this and it will give them a teaser of whats inside the article. This will make the reader interested and make them want to potentially buy the newspaper to read the article. Star Courier use a big picture next to the main article on their front page this picture is in colour aswell. the effect that this has is it attracts the attention of readers of the newspaper. This is a good way of advertising the newspaper to new local readers.

Surrey Hants Star Courier local news paper has a red line below the star courier logo and this line lists the places that the local newspaper covers for news. Star courier has a small red box towards the bottom of the front page. This box shows what is inside the newspaper and lists the sections and pages. This attracts the reader because it is giving them a teaser of whats inside but then not giving any details. This will make the reader want to buy the newspaper to find out the details of the inside. Star Courier also has adverts on the front page. The adverts are quite small though. This newspaper sticks to its colour code and it makes the local newspaper standout.

The news headlines are written in a black bold front. This is very much the typical newspaper writing font. This helps the main headlines and also the name of the newspaper to standout and get noticed. The bracknell newspaper has a red line which runs underneath the title of the newspaper. This red lind contains the date of the newspaper. It also includes the website for the local newspaper and the price. The bracknell news include advertisements on their front page aswell. These adverts are usually at the top and bottom of the main front page headlines in each of these newspapers. These adverts are also in colour so they attract quite alot of attention to the reader.

The front page headlines is written across the page in a big bold font. This is the eye catcher of the person that will be buying the newspaper. The first thing that they will be attracted to would be the main front page headline. Also there is also another bit of writing which is also in a larger font then the normal collum text. This font contains important information which the reader would be attracted to. The font is about half the size of the main headlines and it stands out over the normal collum writting.

The main picture on the front headline for the bracknell news newspaper is large which attracts the attention of the person which is looking at the newspaper. Also the picture is in colour which makes it stand out and eye catching.

What Gender are you?

For the questionnaire I asked what gender they were and the majority of the people that took the questionnaire were female. 15 of the people were female and the other 10 were male.

Which time of the day do you read the news paper?

The feedback which I got from this question were quite spread out. There wasen't one answer which stood out from the other ones. The most popular time for reading the newspaper according to the questionaire is at Tea time. The others follow close by. The most unpopular time for reading the newspaper has proved to be at night time.

Would you be interested in daily interviews in the newspaper?

The majority of people said that they would like there to be a daily interview in the newspaper. This shows that most people are interested for there to be daily interviews for the newspaper. Only just over a quarter of the people asked in the questionnaire said that they would not want there to be daily interviews.

Which age group do you belong in?

The most popular age group which took my questionnaire were towards the younger scale on the age group catagories. The most popular age group was 17 to 21 years of age. Followed closely by the 12 to 16 year olds. The 26 to 35 year old catagory only has 3 people that took the questionnaire. Then followed by 2 people in the 22 to 25 year old catagory. The other two catagories '36 to 49 years' and '50+' years old have only both has 1 person fit into them.

Do you read the newspaper?

I asked in the questionnaire how many people actually read a newspaper. The results showed that a big majority actually do read the newspaper. Less than a quarter on the people that took the questionnaire said that they do not read the newspaper. I am quite suprised that that many people in mixed age groups actually do read the newspaper.

How often do you read the newspaper?

I asked in the questionnaire how often do you read the newspaper. The results to this questionaire were quite mixed. The most popular amount of newspaper reading would be once a week. The second most popular reading amount for the newspaper would be everyday. The least popular reading amount of the newspaper paper is 'never' and 'hardly' with 2 people for each of these catagories.

Which local news paper do you normally read?

The most popular local newspaper that is read by the people which I asked for my questionnaire is The crowthorne times. 13 people said that they read The crowthorne times local newspaper. The second most popular local newspaper which gets read is the Bracknell standard local newspaper. The least read local newspaper is The wokingham times with only 5 people that read it out of the 25 people asked according to my questionnaire.

Which colour would you be attracted to on a bill board advert?

The most attractive colour according to my questionnaire was red followed closely by blue. The other colours were quite similar with the amount of votes but the least popular colour which would be attractive on a billboard advert is yellow.

If there was a website for a local newspaper would you use it?

The feedback from the questionnaire shows that half of the people would use the website for the local newspaper, but also the other half said that they would not use the website for the local newspaper.

Which part of the news paper would you be mostly interested in?

The most popular section in which people are interested in according to my research is the frontpage headlines. Followed by activities. The section that is the least popular is the 'other' section with only 1 person. This shows that the catagories which i picked covered pretty much everyones interests in the local newspaper.

Would a billboard advert effectively make you want to buy the product?

The big magority of people said that the bill board would make them want to buy the product. just over a quarter of the people that took the questionnaire said that the billboard advert would not effectively make them want to buy the product.

If there would be a copy of the newspaper in digital form, which sections would you want hyper linked?

The most popular section that people would want hyperlinked would be the sports section. The joint second most poplar is news and jobs. The least popular section to be hyperlinked if there was a newspaper in digital form would be Local stories.
